| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Pebble Beach Golf Links, located on the Monterey Peninsula in California, was the creative vision of Samuel F.B. Morse, descendant of the inventor of the telegraph and the Morse Code. Laid out during the first World War and opened in 1919, the course was designed by two former California State Amateur champions; Jack Neville and Douglas Grant. With today's professional golf course architects charging design fees in the millions of dollars, it is interesting to note that Neville charged no fee and was able to build the entire course for just over $100,000. Today, Pebble Beach remains the only course of its stature open to public play.
Perhaps nowhere on Earth do the elements of a great golf experience combine as they do at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Here along the shores of Carmel Bay, professionals and recreational players alike have experienced first-hand the wonders of this seaside layout rich with tradition and natural beauty.
Nine national championships have unfolded at Pebble Beach, the first being the 1929 U.S. Amateur in which the great Bobby Jones was upset by a little- known Johnny Goodman.
It was in 1947 that Bing Crosby brought his now famous "Clambake" to the area and put Pebble Beach on the map for generations of golfers to come. One of the most popular of all regular tour stops, the former Crosby National pro-Am is now the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Over the years the late January event has grown tremendously in popularity as spectators enjoy the competition of tour professionals alongside the more light-hearted antics of celebrity amateurs.
In more recent years, Pebble Beach has been the site of three U.S. Opens and is scheduled to host a fourth in the year 2000, the 100th playing of the championship.
We hope you enjoy becoming a part of history!
